Event Description: Learn. Connect. Activate. Join us for a powerful, hands-on community gathering focused on expanding grassroots response and care across Iowa. You’ll learn from Iowa Migrant Movement for Justice organizers about how to participate in the rapid response networks that protect our neighbors from ICE raids, community defense teams that build mutual aid infrastructure, and the humanitarian teams providing emergency support to those in crisis.
We’ll dive into the critical work of feeding each other, including the food rescue initiative of Supply Hive, which redistributes surplus food to feed communities across the state, directly fueling DMARC’s network and ensuring no one goes hungry. We’ll also learn about the safe spaces Feed Des Moines creates for LGBTQIA+ community members, and how to get involved. Representatives from the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention (AFSP Iowa) and materials from the Iowa Coalition Against Domestic Violence (ICADV) will also be present.
This is justice in action — and you’ll learn how to plug in, wherever in Iowa you are. Unity comes from community.
Beyond learning, this event is about connection and creation. You’ll have the chance to co-author community zines, using your voice in any capacity to amplify stories and solutions that matter. Whether you show up with a pen, a paintbrush, or your presence, your contribution is significant.
